RODRIGO MONTOYA / ANDREW ROBINSON / UTE KANNGIESSER / OLIE BRICE / THEBE LIPERE
This quintet showcases some of the newer members of the LIO in a small group. Brazilian Montoya switched from guitar to shamisen and has developed a strong, improvisational approach to the instrument. Robinson is a highly skilled and creative player on all sizes of recorder. Kanngiesser has made a huge impression with her passionate playing, particularly in duets with bassist Guillaume Viltard. Lipere is an experienced and very creative player known for his work with Louis Moholo's groups and with singer Christine Tobin. Brice plays beautiful bass in jazz and improv contexts with a wide variety of people, including Ingrid Laubrock and Alex Hawkins.
